Generate Your Virtual German Phone Number

You can now set up a German virtual phone number. Unlike a traditional phone number, a virtual one isn’t associated with a local address. So your German customers, friends, and family can call you on a local number no matter where you are.

Establish a Local Presence with a German Contact

People are more likely to trust a company that seems to be based in their home country. Obtaining a Germany phone number — called a telefonnummer in the German language — will allow you to establish a local presence there.

If you’re looking to break into the German market and establish a presence in Germany, a local number will give you more credibility and make it easier for people to contact you. The more convenient you make it for your customers to contact you, the more likely they are to reach out.

Enhance your Phone Privacy

Using a virtual German phone number allows you to maintain privacy. You can keep your real phone number — and any associated personal information such as your address — out of the public sphere. This lets you draw a clear line between your business and personal lives.

EasyRinger includes robust security features, so you can easily allow or block certain numbers. This gives you greater control over your phone number, protects your data, and helps prevent spam calls.

What is a German Virtual Phone Number?

A German virtual phone number lets you make and receive calls as if you were in Germany. It uses internet-based technology instead of traditional landlines. This means you don’t need to go to the trouble and expense of establishing a permanent residence in Germany.

Whether you travel to Germany frequently or work completely remotely, you can set up or maintain your presence in Germany at minimal expense. Virtual phone numbers are ideal for businesses or individuals who want to expand into the German market or just maintain contact with friends or family.

SIP Phone Service

Session initiation protocol (SIP) phone service is a technology that uses internet protocols to make voice and video calls and other types of real-time communication. SIP facilitates high-quality communication regardless of the distance between parties. This type of phone service is widely used by international businesses because of its convenience and affordability.

Caller ID

When you’re making a call with EasyRinger, you can set your caller ID to show up as your German phone number. This makes it appear you’re calling from a local number rather than from overseas. If you have more than one virtual number with EasyRinger, you can choose which you want to appear as your caller ID. People are more likely to answer a number that appears to be local, so you’ll have a higher response rate for marketing and sales calls.

Germany Virtual Number FAQs

We offer area codes from over 45 German locations. EasyRinger gives you flexibility in choosing the area code you want, so you can establish a local presence anywhere in the country.

A Germany number consists of three parts. The area code identifies a specific location in Germany, such as the city. It’s between two and five digits and begins with 0. The local prefix is next, followed by the subscriber number. As a general rule, shorter area codes are assigned to cities and longer area codes are assigned to smaller towns. Berlin’s area code is 30, for example, whereas Heidelberg’s area code is 06221. Mobile phone numbers have an area code starting with 15, 16, or 17 that makes them easily identifiable. They’re three or four digits long.

While it can be expensive and time-consuming to get a traditional landline in Germany, it’s extremely simple to set up a virtual number. All you have to do is go to EasyRinger’s home page, choose “Germany” as your preferred company, select the region you want, enter your email to set up your account and submit your payment. If you run into any issues, EasyRinger’s expert customer service team is standing by and happy to help.

The process for calling a number in Germany will be different depending on whether you’re calling from Germany or calling from another number. If you’re calling from inside Germany, you’ll dial the full area code, including the leading zero. You don’t need to include the country code for calls within Germany.

If you’re calling from outside of Germany, the process is a little more complicated. You’ll need to first dial the exit code from your home country. In the United States, the exit code is 011. For most European countries, it’s 00. Next, you need to dial 49, Germany’s country code, then the area code. However, you don’t include the leading zero on the area code when calling from another country. Finally, enter the subscriber code.

As you can see, calling internationally is more complicated, which is a major reason why having a virtual German phone number can benefit your business.

Transparent communication and respect for our customers are two of our highest values. Because of this, we believe in providing excellent customer service. Our chat functionality is available 24/7 directly from your browser. You can also send us an email at support@easyringer.com.

The German phone numbering system can be confusing if you’re used to the 10-digit American-style phone numbers. Here are some examples that can help make it clearer.

A good example of a German phone number is the Immigration and Naturalization Service in Berlin, which is +49 30 902694000

The +49 is the country code, indicating that it’s a German number. You wouldn’t need to dial this if you’re calling from a German phone number. However, you would need to include a leading zero on the area code. The 30 is the area code for Berlin, which you wouldn’t need to dial if you’re calling from a landline with the same area code. To sum up, here are examples of how to call a number in Germany:

  • From a country other than Germany: +49 30 902694000
  • From within Germany but outside of Berlin: 030 902694000
  • From a landline within Berlin: 902694000

An example of a German mobile phone number is +49 151 1234567. Again, 49 is the country code, 151 is the mobile phone area code and 1234567 is the subscriber number. To call this number under the same scenarios as above you’d dial:

  • From outside of Germany: +49 151 1234567
  • From inside of Germany: 0151 1234567

Since the area code is for a mobile number, you’ll always need to dial it. Remember to add the zero before the area code if calling from within the country.

Before 2010, German phone numbers could vary widely in length due to the differences in area code and subscriber digits. However, in 2010, a new numbering plan was introduced and now newly assigned German landline numbers are fixed at 11 digits, including a maximum of eight digits for the subscriber number.

The exceptions to this rule include Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg, and Munich, which have 10-digit numbers because their area codes are only two digits. Older numbers are still in use, and some older subscriber codes could be as short as two digits. So in practice, the length of German phone numbers can vary widely.
